In my opinion, a great way to engage millennials is to simply stop referring to them as millennials. This term has taken on quite a negative connotation, lending itself to be an almost slanderous term in certain circles. Not boxing this group of people into a stereotype will greatly assist your continued success in maintaining both their attention and participation on your team. This generation has a lot to offer: they're very intelligent, creative, and very technologically progressive. We should seek to harness these capabilities instead of turning a blind eye to their potential.

Another way to engage this group of professionals is to engineer your communication in order to make quick, concise and direct points instead of trying to paint a large picture. As technology, as improved and methods of communication have changed, this generation has become accustomed to almost "bullet point" conversations, cutting out the unnecessary fat and subsequent small talk. Our society is moving at a much more rapid pace, and they were on the leading edge of that movement. Less is better.

Finally, when addressing this community, make all communication relevant to them as individuals. They want the "what's in it for me" and little else. Our society has tended to gravitate to an "individually" focused workforce and away from the team mentality, and in order to reap the benefits of their vast knowledge base, you must gain their buy-in. Play to their strengths, encourage their participation and employ transparent communication in order for them to see the positive outcome of their continued support.
